Covered cup and saucer, Meissen Porcelain Factory, porcelain, late eighteenth century with later decoration
Description
Small covered cup and saucer, German, Meissen, c. 1750 or nineteenth century. Hard paste porcelain decorated in enamel colours with gilding. The little cup with angular handle highlighted in gold, gilt rim and arabesque border, yellow ground with single reserve panel bordered in gold a seated cupid in puce, gilt rim around base, the cover with similar decoration, the reserve panel depicting a kneeling cupid with a box, the handle formed of laurel band with ribbon in gold, the saucer again with similar decoration, yellow ground around the dish, in the centre the reserve panel depicting a cupid standing before a stone block, holding and pointing to a scroll with the image of a church.
