- Engraving of William Harrison Ainsworth with extra signatures at the bottom. Probably signed by Ainsworth as these are not what appears in the book this comes from. This engraving was published by James Fraser after Daniel Maclise. This engraving comes from Page 256 of The Maclise Portrait Gallery of Illustrious Literary Characters with Memoirs by William Bates. William Harrison Ainsworth was an author of historical novels. In total he published 39 novels which included Rookwood (Dick Turpin was the main character), Jack Sheppard, Guy Fawkes and The Tower of London, The Lancashire Witches and many more. He was also good friends with Charles Dickens and introduced him to many contacts including publishers and illustrators.
