Engraving of Anna Maria Hall, published by James Fraser after Daniel Maclise. This engraving comes from Page 366 of The Maclise Portrait Gallery of Illustrious Literary Characters with Memoirs by William Bates. Anna Maria Hall or Mrs S C Hall was an Irish author. She published stories including Sketches of Irish Character, Chronicles of a School Room, The Bucanner, Marian and many others. Some of her stories also became plays such as The French Refugee, which was preformed for 90 nights at St James Theatre. She was also a patron of various medical institutions such as the Hospital for Consumption at Brompton and the Nightingale Fund.
