Description
An Engraving of Sir John Cam Hobhouse, Baron Broughton de Gyfford, published by James Fraser after Daniel Maclise. This engraving comes from Page 372 of The Maclise Portrait Gallery of Illustrious Literary Characters with Memoirs by William Bates. John Cam Hobhouse was a politician and diarist. He was a friend of Lord Byron and travelled with him through Spain, Greece and Turkey in 1809. He was a partner in Whitbread's brewery, a fellow of the Royal Society and also one of the founders of the Royal Geographical Society. He was also an MP and held many positions in government including President of the Board of Control
