- Egg stand and toast rack, Michael Plummer, George Smith III and William Fearn, 1793-95
- Description
- Rectangular wired stand on six feet surmounted by an oval parcel-gilt salt on foot, with four parcel-gilt egg-cups and four Old English thread egg spoons, parcel-gilt, spoons engraved with a phoenix crest. Egg spoons detachable, with reeded handles. Side racks for toast. Rack dated 1794.

Breakfast in the eighteenth century was usually quite simple. Tea, coffee or hot chocolate might be accompanied by rolls, bread, cakes and eggs. In Bath, hot Sally Lunn buns and sweet Bath buns topped with caraway comfits were served at public breakfasts.
