- Description
- Tankard and Cover. Scandinavian 18th cent. altered in 19th. century. Straight sided silver golt, on three pomegranite feet. Figure of plenty as finial, ship on handles, stepped down domed cover with putti and sea creature, broken scroll handle-chain. body base and cover with renassance ornament (19th.cent) Imitating Scandinavian peg tankard. Henry V111 arms on front against pounced ground. Phoenix and winged lion to either side and recumbent angels. Engraved inscription on base, Henricus Rex B.F.I.D.F. and strapwork ornament ?? 1527.Marked on rim two roses, ? sea creature.Probably 18th.c Scandinavian tankard altered in 19c by adding domed cover and all the decoration.
