Funeral spoon
Amsterdam
Silver-gilt, 1664/65
S343
This object was made to commemorate the death of a child. The two skeletons on the medallion hold a scythe and an extinguished torch, both symbols of life cut short. Between them sits a baby blowing soap bubbles, another emblem of the fragility of life.
