Description
Funeral spoon. Pear-shaped , the cast rustic stem terminating in a beaded knop formed as a calyx. Bowl back engraved with coat of arms and inscription, 'Den j September 1700 is in dem Gerif Claes YBS' (The 1st. of September 1700 rested in the Lord Claes (son of) Ibes)

Funeral spoon Dutch (probably Sneek) Silver, about 1650 S334 Inscribed later: Den j September 1700 is in dem Gerif Claes Ybs [1 September 1700 rested in the Lord Claes [son of] Ibes] More elaborate than their English counterparts, Dutch spoons were made to commemorate births, marriages and even deaths.
