Apostle spoon
Description
Apostle spoon. St. Thomas (possibly) with a broken staff?Circular nimbus with dove, hexagaonal stem. Pricked on back of bowl with initials GR DGW EG 1641 and later Old English S under a ducal coronet, for the Duke of Sussex (See also S 203). Gilded. Purchased by Holburne at the Christie's Sale of the 23rd June 1843.Nephew of Daniel Cary (q.v.), William was active 1638-c.-1662 as a major manufacturer of spoons
