Description
Small covered jug, English, Worcester, 1775-1785. Soft-paste porcelain decorated in enamel colours with gilding. The jug with simple handle and sparrow-beak spout, the body decorated with sprays of puce flowers, the one beneath the spout in a gilt Rococo cartouche, small puce leaves and insects, gilt rim, the lid with moulded leaves, stem and a bud forming the knop, decorated in puce, with small puce leaves, gilt line around the edge.

Covered jug Worcester Porcelain Factory Soft-paste porcelain, about 1780 P106 Bequest of Mrs F Calder, 1955 Plants and flowers were a major source of inspiration for the designers of eighteenth-century porcelain. They were painted in underglaze blue, brightly coloured overglaze enamels or gleaming gold. In naturalistic rococo pieces moulded flowers and leaves form decorative finials, handles and even entire objects.
