- Rectangular on glass. Captain Francis Holburne (1788-1814) in uniform. Full length. Francis Ralph Thomas Holburne, eldest son of Sir Francis, 4th Bart. and brother of Sir T.W.Holburne, served in the Peninsular War in the 3rd Guards Regt. He died 23/04/1814 of a wound and is buried in a small cemetery near the town of Bayonne. W.Hamlet (fl.c.1779-1815) the most eminent of the numerous silhouette painters of the time practising in BathThe sitter stands in profile to the left. He is in uniform and holds a plumed hat in his right hand. He holds his sheathed sabre in his left hand

Francis Holburne (1788–1814) was William’s older brother. He joined the 3rd Foot Guards in 1806 and fought against Napoleon’s armies in the Peninsular Campaigns in Spain and Portugal. He was clearly greatly loved by his family.
