- Description
- Unknown Lady taking tea. Rectangular. The sitter, in profile to the left, sits in a chair beside a tea-table which is laid for tea. She wears her hair high-piled with a cap on it. She holds a cup and saucer in her hand. Her dress has a high collar and some flounces.Although unfortunately not in very good condition, this is an interesting and very charming silhouette. The reference to the Princess of Wales on the trade card indicates a date from 1795 when her marriage took place. There is a gilt metal frame

A Lady taking Tea
Charles Christian Rosenberg (1745-1844)
Painted on glass, after 1795
Rosenberg seems to have been born in Austria; he may have come to Britain as a page to Queen Charlotte, but by 1787 he was working in Bath. He was among the most famous and prolific of Bath artists, with regular advertisements in the Bath press from 1787 to around 1815.
