- Cut paper silhouette: The Rev Charles Simeon out walking, Augustin Edouart, 1828

- Rectangular.The sitter is shown walking, wearing a clerical hat and a gown which covers his coat. He wears breeches and stocings and shoes with bows. He carries an umbrella under his arm.Charles Simeon (1759-1836) was awell-known evangelical preacher and was the incumbent of Trinity Church, Cambridge. He aws vice-provost of Kings College (1790-92). His most important work was as founder of the Church Missionary Society.The silhoutte was executed during Edouart's stay in Cambridge. Besides this and other silhouettes in the collection, he executed a number of other silhouettes of this sitter, some of which are in theNational Portrait Gallery.For another version of this silhouart, see Jackson, op cit plate VX.This silhoutte or another version was in Edouart's travelling exhibitionThe popularity of the image is shown by the fact that other silhouttists imitated it, merely substituting the face of their sitter for that of Simeon.There is a gilt metal frame.
