- Lady's work table, German or Austrian, satinwood and rosewood, about 1830
- Description
- Ladies work table for parlour, drawing room, or even bedroom. Satinwood or cherry veneer on beech or pine carcase. One drawer, pillar legs. Rectangular, the top with two bands of inlay. One true drawer with turned rosewood knob handles and one dummy drawer front. The true drawer of cedar. Rectangular panels of rosewood in frieze above legs and then band around base of frieze. Four circular, pillar legs, with turned rosewood cross capping with two compressed knops. Compressed stretcher of intersecting curves. Turned knob feet in rosewood. Jonathan Harris suggests "likely to be cherry wood". (Survey of the Collections of the Holburne Musem of Art, Part II, Autumn 1999-Spring 2000)
