- Commode or chest of drawers, mahogany, English c. 1760Of serpentine form at both front and sides with two short and three long drawers bordered with narrow mouldings, the canted front corners mounted with continuous ormolu stylised acanthus leaves and heavily cast scroll feet, the drawers with elaborate ormolu handles and escutcheons, the lower shaped apron with an ormolu mount in the form of an asymmetrical acanthus scroll, the sides mounted with heavily cast ormolu handles. The drawer fronts of solid mahogany with sides and bases of oak.

This type of French-style chest of drawers or commode became fashionable in England from around 1750. Pierre Langlois was a distinguished cabinet-maker whose workshop was in the Tottenham Court Road, London.
