Chandelier, English, lead glass, about 1790
Description
Eight-light cut glass chandelier. English, c. 1790-93. Formerly at Mount Trenchard, Foynes, County Limerick, Ireland.The chandelier of typical neo-classical design and form, consisting of a central metal shaft or stem of cut glass balusters and receiver bowl for branches, at the top a glass canopy with pendant swags and lines of cut glass drops, in the upper centre eight glass branches supporting eight spires linked by swags of glass beads, small canopies at the base of each spire, in the main central section eight glass branches supporting candle holders and cups, linked by swags of glass beads and with pendant lines of glass drops, below the receiver a lower canopy hung with glass swags and pendants, larger cut glass pulling ball at the base.
