One in a pair of English elbow chairs. Backs with bow-shaped crest rails; pierced centre splat. Carved with paterae, fluting and beading; on square tapered legs. Parlous or dining chairs, originally would have had horsehair or blue or red leather seats. Later note: One chair has a new front rail. Front legs wrong. Piece inset to centre splat and to back rails. Not 18th century. Should be removed. Reupholstered 1983.Later note: Some doubt about chair with 2 struts under seat. May be reproduction. Other chair may have had arms added (se upholstery holes under seat).
