Elbow chair, one of a pair
Description
One of a pair of armchairs, mahogany, c. 1785-95, the carved back composed of an arched cresting rail and straight sides with three straight carved and inlaid uprights, the upper section of each carved with imitative Corinthian capials of acanthus leaves above square section pillars inlaid with shaded satinwood, carved bases fixed to a straight horizontal lower rail, the square section arms of simple form sweeping down to a straight seat rail, square section tapered legs, the upholstery of the seat modern.
