- Small tripod candlestand
- Description
- Candlestand, one of a pair with F 19, in the form of a small oval marble vase with a cover mounted in ormolu, fixed into a bronze tripod on a marble base. The body of the marble vase supported by an ormolu pillar beneath fixed into an ormolu lotus leaf, the rim of the vase mounted with a delicate engine-turned ormolu band with three projecting ormolu eyes holding linked gilt chains and small chains with pendant tassels. Above, a semi circular marble cover, also mounted in ormolu with lotus leaf and engine-turned finial, the inside fitted with an ormolu candle cup which, when reversed, provides the candle holder. Three bronze legs supporting the vase, of serpentine shape, terminating at the top with cast rams' heads, at the bottom with acanthus leaves and hoof feet, standing on an ormolu circular base mounted on a circular marble plinth with spiral engine-turned band around the outer edge.
