- Admiral Horatio Viscount Nelson (1758-1805)The Admiral is shown in profile to the left. He is at bust length and placed on a plinth. He wears the uniform of his rank.Nelson distinguished himself at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent. In 1708 he won the Battle of the nile, after which he was at Naples where he began his liason with Lady Hamilton. In 1801 he defeated the Danes off Copenhagen. He was killed at the Battle of Trafalgar in which he was viv=ctorios.The silhouette dates from the years soon after Nelson's death, it is anunusually elaborate work.There is an ebonised wood frame with brass roundels at the corners.
