Candelabrum, one of a pair
Description
Candelabrum, one of a pair, German, Dresden c1750?. Hard-paste porcelain decorated in enamel colours with gilding. Composed of a standing male figure supported by a tree trunk, black hat with gilt brim, turquoise coat lined with puce,crimson neckerchief, white shirt, blue sash, pink and red breeches, white stockings, black shoes with red bows, a handle (from a spade?) in his left hand, his right arm raised (now broken and missing) towards a basket on his head which acts as a cup for a double candle branch of naturalistic form with moulded flowers and leaves decorated in enamel colours, small drip pans in the shape of formal leaves, the candle cups decorated with small European flowers in enamel colours, gilt rims, in the centre a finial of modelled naturalstic flowers painted in in enamel colours, the figure mounted on an elaborate Rococo base formed of scrolls in turquoise, pink and gold.
