- Description
- Vase and cover, German, Meissen, probably eighteenth century with nieteenth century additions. Hard-paste porcelain with relief moulding, decorated in enamel colours with gilding, mounted on an ormolu base. The vase baluster-shaped with narrow neck and everted gilt rim, the body of the vase with two quatrefoil panels with raised gilt borders, containing scenes of birds painted in enamel colours, ducks on one side, doves and pigeons on the other , other parts of the white ground decorated with fine butterflies in enamel colours, each side overlaid with delicate flowers, leaves and stems in high relief, the cover also decorated in the same way with butterflies and insects in enamel colours on the dome, overlaid with flowers and stems in high relief, the knop formed by an elaborate flower; the whole mounted on a heavy circular ormolu base with lotus leaves at the top and a band fof roses around the base.-.
