Plate with Poulton (racehorse), Nantgarw China Works, c.1813
Description
Plate, porcelain, Nantgarw factory c. 1813. The lobed rim moulded with scrollwork and flowers in relief forming six panels which are painted in enamel colours with representations of racing and stable accessories, viz: 1)saddle, horse covering and whip; 2) saddle, jockey's jacket, cap and whip; 3) riding boots, cap and sable appliances; 4) jockey's scales and weights and a sheaf of corn; 5) Bell, and a pair of starting flags; 6) saddle and sheaf of corn; covering the whole of the middle of the plate and painted in enamel colours is a view of a race course with grandstand and race in progress, a bay horse, below which, painted in gilt letters on a stone, the name "POULTON".
