Medium Jug, one of a set of three, Swansea. White with gold rim and neck band, round base with pink roses and various flowers.
Description
Jug, Welsh, Swansea, c. 1817. Soft-paste porcelain decorated in enamel colours with relief moulding and gilding. The middled-sized of a set of three. The jug with bulbous body, short wide neck, relief moulded foliated spout highlighted with gilding, gilt rim and gilt line around base of neck, the neck painted with a large pink rose, green leaves and gilt branches on each side, angular loop handle splaying into acanthus leaf at the base and highlighted with gilt edges and neoclassical motifs, the body painted in enamel colours with one one side, a large spray of brightly coloured naturalistic flowers and on the other a single large pink rose, leaves and two buds, gilt line above the foot rim.
