Letter from James Carmichael, Witness to Jean Holburne's Will, presumably to Admiral Francis Holburne, 1st March 1763, re Jean Holburne's WillSir,Edin. 1 March 1763.I was duly favoured with yours of the 11th July which I would have answered in course, but wanted to hear from Sir James Clerk, about the interest he paid to Mrs. Holburne and the Bond he paid to Mr. Campbell, both of which he has sent me, and it stands as thus: Paid to Mrs. Jean Holburne 1st Octer 1761 the sum of Ten (or five?) pound Sterling in full of interest due from Martinmas 1760 to Mars 1761 per Receipt 2nd Decmr 1762 Paid Mr Campbell one hundred pounds Sterling with five pounds of interest being in full of the above Bond and interest as confirmed Executor Dative (?) in right of his wife & Discharges the same - This wrote on the foot of the Bond Mr Campbell I believe has the hundred guinea Bond which I suppose has also confirmed Sir James owns he should have paid Mrs. Holburne five shillings more as the year's interest of the five pounds which he shall remember at clearing and knows nothing of any other subjects due to your sisterI here send you enclosed the principall Disposition by Mrs. Jean Holburne in your favour which I put into the Register in case of accidents of miscarriage - I see no occasion that youll have to administer hereMr. George Clerk who lost a daughter lately of five years old was that day comforted with good accounts from his son John from Ireland which happened the post before you wrote to me about him, both he and Lord Edgefield beg to be remembered to youI shall be glad to hear this comes safe to hand and if I can do any thing in relation to the Execution of this Will you may command me Sir James Clerk presents his Compliments to you as does my wife and I ever amYour most Obed.t and most humble servtJa: CarmichaelOn the outside in different hand: Mr Carmichael Sisters Will
