- Portrait of Archduke Albrecht
- Description
Archduke Albert of Austria is depicted in armour and wearing the insignia of the Order of the Golden Fleece which he received in 1599, the year in which he married Isabella Clara Eugenia, daughter of Philip II of Spain. In the same year Frans Pourbus the Younger was employed at the Archducal court, where he painted the newly-weds' portraits (Groningesmuseum, Bruges). This version is considered a good example by the artist's workshop of the Archduke's portrait. It differs from the original at the Groningesmuseum in the style of ruff and in the addition of decorative red edging to the armour.
