November
Description

This is a copy of November (1643, Staatsgalerie, Schleissheim), which Joachim von Sandrart painted as part a series of Months for Prince Maximilian of Bavaria. The compositions became well-known through engravings by Cornelis van Dalen.

Sandrart represented the month of November by means of the hare hunt which took place at this time of year. A youth carries the dead game, at which his dog sniffs greedily. The gloomy autumnal atmosphere is created with the leaden sky and crepuscular light. Compared with the original composition, this painting appears cropped and falling leaves are omitted.

This is copy of a painting of November: A Hunter by Joachim von Sandrart the Elder at the Scholssanlage Schleishheim in Germany.
