Still Life with Shellfish and Fruit follower of Abraham van Beyeren (about 1620-1690) Oil on canvas, 1660s This sumptuous banquet table once hung in Sir William Holburne’s dining room. The composition is particularly rich in detail, and recent cleaning has revealed a silver ewer, a crab, oysters, a pomegranate and a pocket-watch. The watch is a reminder that all earthly delights, fruit, food, even fine ceramics and glass, eventually pass away. The artist has included a shadowy self-portrait, reflected in the ewer. A15
