Brown is a Bath-based painter best known for his street scenes. He is colloquially called "Pete the Street" for his practice of working directly from source in all weathers.
“I drove through Bath in a bit of a panic. The problem is there are views everywhere, but is there a better one around the corner? When I passed the Holburne, there was no question."

"I drove through Bath in a bit of a panic. The problem is there are views everywhere, but is there a better one around the corner? When I passed the Holburne, there was no question. I parked outside the Pulteney Arms, and I stood painting on the compacted snow until 1 pm. The light was even but I returned late one afternoon to 'switch the lights on the building' as I had first found them early that Sunday morning" Peter Brown, excerpt from "Bath. Paintings by Peter Brown" (2018)
