Considered the herald and messenger of the Olympian gods, Hermes moved freely between the worlds of the living and dead. Various of his attributes are portrayed here, including the talaria (winged sandals) and the lyre, invented by him. His muscular form evokes the physicality shown in Frink’s sculpture.
