Fan, French, 1780-90
Description
Gauze fan with ebony sticks and green silk-covered box, probably French, late eighteenth century. Probably for mourning costume. The leaf of the fan of plain black cotton gauze with carved ebony sticks,the whole enclosed in a green silk patterned box which is embroidered with flowers and birds.The box is lined in striped ikat silk.
