- Description
- Fan, with paper leaf with sticks of pierced aromatic wood, gilt metal ring fixed with mother-of pearl stud, crimson silk and metal thread cord, interlace ornament and tassel. French, mid nineteenth century.The leaf painted with a scene scene of a harem with gold leaf additions.Twelve figures, mostly female, are seated on rugs and cushions against a turquoise background. Ceremonial urns complete the picture. Wooden sticks are decorated with birds, hares and a hunting dog. On the reverse, against a turquoise background, are three women playing with a child. Shrubs and a foliate design complete the scene.
