Unknown Lady, formerly called Lady Spencer. Rectangular.The sitter wears a flat whte hat adorned with ribbons. She wears a white dress and is seated in a dining armchair. She holds a book. A blue cloak is draped over the chair. There is a blue-grey bacground.The miniature is French, and although it purports to be of the 18th century, it is in fact. of the late 19th century. There is no resemblance to the known portraits of the Lady Spencer of the late 18th century.The frame which has 'Spencer' enamelled in blue and white, with flowers is of gilt metal.
