- Fall front writing desk in Arts and Crafts style, English, designed and made by the Bath Cabinet Makers Co., c. 1900. Oak with copper hinges.The carcase made of oak consisting of an upper horizontal section for books with simple staight moulding along the top, three turned uprights along the front; below is the fall-front secretaire, flat drop-front panel with elaborate copper strap hinges forming a central motif with stylised plant forms on the panel, with drop handle, side hinges linked to large exposed curved copper struts; at the top of the front panel an extended frieze carved with the inscription: "WORDS ARE LIKE LEAVES AND WHERE THEY MOST ABOUND, MUCH FRUIT OF SENSE BENEATH IS RARELY FOUND". At the base of secretair section a large half-round moulding, below which is a simple stand with four turned canted legs, side and front stretchers, echoing the style of a seventeenth century joint-stool. Inside the secretaire section are three pigeon holes at the top.
