ARMCHAIR
Description
Armchair,probably Dutch or Flemish, c. 1650 with restoration. Walnut with woollen upholstery.Armchair, the frame constructed of walnut with fully upholstered back and seat. The back of plain rectangular form with extended scrolling arms carved with acanthus leaves, spiral-turned arm supports; spirally turned legs, side and middle stretchers, the front stretcher carved with a central flower and shell motif, on each side C-scrolls and acanthus leaves. Back and seat covered in woollen gros-point embroidery of stylised roses on leafy stalks, in imitation of seventeenth century "Turkey-work", made by the donor's mother.
