Description
Mantel clock, French c. 1890 in the style of Louis XVI. Marble structure in the shape of a lyre, mounted with bands and swags of ormolu, on a marble base, between the arms of the lyre a round gilt brass clock with enamel dial signed "Lenoir a Paris", the movement with anchor escapement and count wheel striking on a small bell, stamped on the backplate "A.D. Mougin", "5134" stamped on backplate and pendulum. The pendulum, in the form of a mock gridiron, also representing the strings of a lyre is attached to a ring of paste brilliants which encircles the enamel dial. Originally the clock may have had an ormolu "sunburst" above the arms of the lyre, which is now missing although fixing holes are visible.
